Statement

My work often involves the re-staging of historically important art works that deal with the psyche of  human nature; with themes drawn from mythology that invite an allegorical interpretation. I am influenced by the philosophy of mythologist Joseph Campbell  who described Mythology as having themes that support human life,  inner problems, inner mysteries and inner thresholds of passage that provide relevance to our own lives.

My art works such as “The Heretic“, “The Kiss” and “After the Nightmare” contain common themes that are found in myths such as fate, love and sacrifice. “After the Nightmare” deals  the collective unconscious and expressions found in symbolic forms that exists in our own psyche relating to our life and pertains to who we are which includes sexual desires and/or fantasies,

“The Kiss” image represents themes such as love, betrayal and shame found throughout religious stories as well as fairytales. This image serves as a prelude to this years tableau of Sleeping Beauty that J William Hill and I are collaborating on. The Sleeping Beauty sagas are full of spiritual and psychological meaning. Sleeping Beauty is based on the nature of the feminine psyche and its path of the soul’s self-realization ( or salvation) and self-knowledge.
